What does a VW Polo service cost in Cape Town?

If your Polo or Polo Vivo is out of warranty, a dealer service can feel like a punishment. Here is a plain-English breakdown of what a service actually involves, and how an independent specialist keeps the price fair.

Minor service vs major service

A minor service is the regular one: engine oil and oil filter, a fresh air filter where needed, and a general safety check over the brakes, fluids, belts and tyres. A major service adds the items that come around less often, such as spark plugs, fuel filter and cabin filter, plus a more thorough inspection.

Most Polos are due for a service roughly every 15,000 km or once a year, whichever comes first. Keeping to it protects the engine and keeps your service record intact, which matters when you sell.

Why independent is cheaper than the dealer

Two reasons. First, no dealership overheads baked into the bill. Second, and this is the big one: with an independent you can buy your own parts. My pricing is labour only, so you pay for genuine or quality aftermarket parts at retail rather than marked-up dealer prices, and you only pay me to fit them.

Not sure where to buy? I can source them for you: I get a quote from the spares shop, send it to you, you pay for the parts, I buy them, and you get the full receipt. No markup, no mystery.

So what will it cost?

Because it is labour only, the fitting cost is predictable and the parts are up to you. A minor service is quick; a major service takes longer because there is more to do. You will always get the labour price up front before any work starts, so there are no surprises when you collect the car.
